Canary Islands

Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest and most visited of the Canary Islands, dominated by the majestic Mount Teide — Spain's highest peak at 3,718 meters. The island offers extraordinary contrasts: the lunar volcanic landscape of Teide National Park, the ancient laurel forests of Anaga (both UNESCO sites), cosmopolitan resort towns in the south, and charming colonial towns like La Orotava and La Laguna in the north. Tenerife's Carnival in Santa Cruz is the second largest in the world after Rio de Janeiro.

Beaches

Playa de las Teresitas

A beautiful golden sand beach near Santa Cruz, created with sand imported from the Sahara Desert. Sheltered by a breakwater, the calm waters are perfect for families.

Playa de Benijo

A dramatic wild beach in the Anaga mountains with black volcanic sand, powerful surf, and striking rock formations jutting from the Atlantic.

El Médano

Tenerife's windiest beach, a mecca for windsurfers and kitesurfers. The natural beach stretches for over 2km beside the Montaña Roja volcanic cone.

Activities

Hike Mount Teide

Ascend Spain's highest peak through a surreal volcanic landscape. A cable car reaches near the summit, but a free permit is needed for the final ascent to the crater.

Whale Watching

The waters between Tenerife and La Gomera host resident populations of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins. Responsible boat tours depart from Los Cristianos and Puerto Colón.

Stargazing

Teide National Park is a Starlight Reserve with some of the world's clearest skies. Nighttime stargazing tours with telescopes reveal nebulae, galaxies, and planets.
