Catalonia
Catalonia is a proudly distinct region in northeastern Spain with its own language (Catalan), traditions, and a fierce sense of identity. Its capital Barcelona is one of Europe's most visited cities, but the region extends far beyond — from the surreal landscapes that inspired Salvador Dalí along the Costa Brava to the snow-capped Pyrenees, from the sacred mountain of Montserrat to the wine country of Penedès and Priorat. Catalonia's culinary scene is arguably the most innovative in Spain, home to legendary restaurants and the creative spirit that produced Ferran Adrià's molecular gastronomy revolution.

Geography & Culture
Geography
Catalonia spans from the Pyrenees mountains on the French border to the Mediterranean coast. The Costa Brava offers rugged cliffs and hidden coves in the north, while the Costa Daurada provides family-friendly beaches to the south. Inland, the volcanic region of La Garrotxa and the Montserrat massif offer dramatic landscapes.
Culture
Catalan culture is deeply rooted in traditions like castellers (human towers), sardana dancing, and the correfocs (fire runs). Modernisme, the Catalan Art Nouveau movement led by Gaudí, Domènech i Montaner, and Puig i Cadafalch, left Barcelona with some of Europe's most extraordinary buildings. The Catalan language is widely spoken and is a source of great regional pride.
Regional Cuisine
Catalan cuisine blends mountain and sea (mar i muntanya). Pa amb tomàquet (bread with tomato) is ubiquitous. Escalivada, calçots (grilled spring onions), and fideuà are regional staples. Catalonia's wine regions — Penedès, Priorat, and cava country — produce some of Spain's finest bottles.
